Library 2.0 & Web 2.0

The library world has changed drastically since I was a kid. "Away from the iceberg" I do think that our library system is working hard to keep up with libraries patrons needs. Although I agree with cutting back on the "just in case collection". The library does have so many resources at our fingertips, but if people do not know how to use the resources what is the point of having them. If we can educate the patrons on how to use the resources we can help to eliminate the barriers between us. If they cannot get information from us they will go somewhere else to find it. Let's have some training courses on how to use NoveList, ect. for patrons.

Technorati

I find it very similar to the google search engine and easy to use. I am not up on technology but I have certainly learned alot from doing this challenge by searching these different resources.

Since I have two young girls I was not surprised to see Miley Cyrus at the top of the blogger list. I never knew what a twitter was until I explored Technorati. So there you have it, another thing completed!

Del.icio.us

I think del.icio.us is a great resource for someone that does a lot of research. An instructor who has multiple subjects with different topics might utilize it. I don't know that I would ever use it. It might be good for tagging recipes (i.e. Appetizers, Main Dishes, Desserts, ect.).

WorldCat

WorldCat is awesome! The search features are really great and easy to navigate. I like the way it brings up the locations where it is available based on your zip code. I definitely think it will help in filling out the Request For Materials form and helping customers find things that we don't have in our system.

NetLibrary

I found NetLibrary very easy to set up, I would be able help someone set it up with no problem. Unless you know specifically what you are looking for, I didn't find it very easy to search with. I don't think I would use it unless that was the only way I could read a book I needed. Reading books staring at a computer screen does not really appeal to me though.

Library Thing Awesome!!

I absolutely love it! I have finally found something I can really appreciate. I love to read. I have trouble keeping track of what I have read at times and what to read next. I think this will be a great resource. I'm really liking LibraryThing! Four out of my five books were popular. Alot of good comments. I'm looking forward to exploring it some more!

Technology Unadvanced

I always knew that I was not up on the latest technology, but I never realized how far behind I was until this challenge. I am learning alot through all the confusion. I have a computer at home to do all of this stuff, I just don't have the time to put into it. There are so many amazing things you can do today. I just appreciate that I don't have to change the film after 24 exposures anymore. I do love my digital camera!

Finding Feeds

This exercise was exploring a few search tools for finding RSS feeds. I thought Topix.net and Technorati were the most user friendly. Syndic8 was the not so easy to navigate.

RSS Feeding Me Info

I was able to create a bloglines account fairly easily. I found some RSS feeds for sites the I already frequent. So having that available in my bloglines I thought was pretty neat!
